Abstract To enable interoperability among systems, ontology matching techniques have been proposed, allowing to capture semantic relationships among concepts in the underlying ontologies. The generated mappings may however suffer from problems that hamper their usefulness. In this paper, we focus on violations to the so-called conservativity principle, consisting in new entailments between entities of the same ontology induced by the mapping. Specifically, we define effective and efficient techniques, based on logic programming and graph-theory, for detecting and correcting such violations.
